Awesome Android Apps for the 2012 Olympics
With the opening ceremony just hours away, billions of people the world over are getting swept up in Olympic fever. But unless you’re fortunate to be traveling on the other side of the Pond over the next few weeks, chances are that most of the events will be underway while you’re yawning over your first cup of coffee or, if you live on the West Coast, while you’re still fast asleep. The good news is that if you’re looking for up-to-the-minute updates and video of your favorite events, there are plenty of mobile apps out there to serve you:
- London 2012 Join In: This app is meant primarily for those attending the games, and features a full event guide, maps, live updates, and a scheduler. The app also comes fitted with a location sharing function, making sure you and your friends can find each other in London’s bustling crowds.
- NBC Olympics: The NBC Olympics app comes with highlights, event schedules, TV and online listings, results, athlete profiles, and more; if you have the patience to go through the registration system and acquire the “Live Extra” supplement, you can stream any and every Olympic event directly to your Android device.
- BBC Olympics: If your hardware isn’t quite as beefy as you’d like it to be, but you still want to keep up with all the Olympic fanfare, this might be the app for you. BBC Olympics provides you with event schedules, results, and live text commentaries from BBC journalists in real time.
- Shazam: Yes, we know…technically speaking, this isn’t an Olympic app, and you probably already have it on your phone anyway. But Shazam’s developers are showing off their penchant for innovation with these Summer Olympics. Instead of tagging a song, just tag your broadcast, and Shazam will provide you with in-depth athlete information, competition schedules, and more, all immediately relevant to the event you’ve asked your phone to identify.
Of course, if you have a great idea for an Olympics app, you have plenty of time to iron out all the kinks before the opening ceremony in Rio de Janeiro in 2016; in the meantime, don’t hesitate to give us a call, and we can help get you on your way.
